As the title suggests, recently a group of archeologists discovered an ancient underground city in Tiwanaku, Bolivia. What’s so interesting about it is its overall size; it’s massive, to say the least standing at 2000 acres or 78 hectares underneath the soil.
The archeologists managed to make the discovery only thanks to tips from the locals that claimed there to be an underground maze that nobody was able to transverse.
Luckily, through the use of drones and satellites, they eventually got to the bottom of it, unearthing the secrets of the city. The budget was mainly taken care of by Japan and UNESCO since they both really wanted to see what the rumors were all about.
The official Tiwanakian civilization was said to have started in 1580 BC and by 1200 AD it was already completely eradicated by climate changes and diseases that emerged with time.
They are by far the oldest civilization to have ever lived in South America, even older than the Quechuas and the Aymaras.
Officially known as “World Heritage Site” as of 2000, this was always a very impressive tourist attraction, but thanks to the archeologists we finally discovered its secrets and are now conducting several experiments to make out all that there is to this ancient civilization and its mysterious culture.
